In Their Own Words
Rozaimi Mahmud
Principal, Sekolah Agama Rakyat · Selangor
"We engaged Pelita Counsel after years of managing our school's operations with no external input. What surprised me was how much the advisor already understood about how a sekolah agama rakyat actually functions — the funding structures, the relationship with the state religious department, the sensitivities around curriculum. The written report gave our board concrete things to discuss. We implemented about half the recommendations within the first year."

Faridah Hamzah
Operations Director, Halal Food Manufacturer · Klang Valley
"Our company had been operating for eight years without a structured review of our halal compliance processes. We brought in Pelita Counsel when we were considering expansion and wanted to understand whether our internal practices were where they needed to be. The engagement was businesslike and the findings were honest — they identified gaps we had not noticed ourselves. The report helped us prepare properly for our certification renewal."

Zarina Ahmad
Secretary-General, Yayasan Amanah Rahmah · Kuala Lumpur
"For a foundation of our size, the MYR 460 engagement fee was manageable — and the value was considerably more than what we paid. The review helped us see that our governance structure had developed organically over the years without any systematic design, and that this was creating some real operational strain. The reflection document was well-written and practical. We shared it with our board and it prompted a useful conversation we had been avoiding."

Khairul Izzat
Managing Director, Halal Cosmetics Company · Shah Alam
"I had worked with consulting firms before and found the experience frustrating — long engagements, reports full of frameworks that didn't apply to us, and follow-on proposals that felt like the engagement was designed to continue indefinitely. Pelita Counsel was different. The advisor understood our industry from the inside. The engagement ended when it was supposed to end, and we got a clear document we could use."

Norzaiti Aziz
Administrator, Islamic Educational Institution · Petaling Jaya
"The engagement took a little longer to get started than we expected — the preliminary conversation went through two rounds before we were all aligned on what the scope should be. But once it began, it was well-organized and the advisor was consistently respectful of how we operate as a faith-based institution. We would not hesitate to recommend Pelita Counsel to other organizations in our sector."

Suhaimi Rashid
Chairman, Waqf Advisory Committee · Negeri Sembilan
"Our waqf body had been operating for over a decade and had grown in scope without any corresponding development in how we governed ourselves. The Pelita Counsel engagement was the first time we had a structured external review. The written document they produced has become a reference point for our trustees. Small, thoughtful, well-informed — that is how I would describe the practice."

Engagement Journeys
Three examples of how engagements have unfolded — shared with client permission and identifying details adjusted.
Islamic School — Operational Review
Religious Education Advisory · 11 weeks
Challenge
An established religious school in Selangor had grown from 120 to over 400 students over five years, but its administrative structure had not developed accordingly. Staff roles were unclear, financial reporting was inconsistent, and the principal was handling operational matters that should have been delegated.
Our Approach
Over eleven weeks, we conducted structured conversations with the principal, senior teachers, and administrative staff. We reviewed operational documents and mapped the current decision-making flow. The engagement was sensitive to the school's religious character and the relationships between its stakeholders.
Outcome
The written report documented eleven observations and seven recommendations. Within six months of delivery, the school had restructured its administrative roles, introduced a basic monthly financial reporting process, and appointed a deputy principal for operations.
Halal Food Producer — Certification Preparation
Halal Industry Consultation · 9 weeks
Challenge
A family-run halal food manufacturer in Negeri Sembilan was approaching its three-year JAKIM certification renewal. Past audits had flagged minor non-conformances in their ingredient sourcing documentation, and the family was uncertain how to address them systematically.
Our Approach
We reviewed their existing documentation and processes against current JAKIM requirements. We spoke with the production manager and supplier liaison to understand how sourcing decisions were made in practice. We identified three areas of documentation that needed strengthening before the audit.
Outcome
The company addressed all three documentation areas before their renewal audit. The renewal was completed without non-conformance flags for the first time in two cycles. The family now has an internal process for maintaining documentation between audits.
Charitable Foundation — Governance Review
Charitable Foundation Counsel · 10 weeks
Challenge
A mid-sized charitable foundation in Kuala Lumpur had a board that had not changed composition in many years. Several trustees were uncertain of their legal obligations under the Companies Commission framework. There were also internal questions about how decision-making authority was distributed.
Our Approach
We reviewed the foundation's constitution, board minutes, and reporting practices. We held separate conversations with the chairman, executive director, and three trustees. The engagement was structured to surface the actual governance dynamics rather than just document the formal structure.
Outcome
The reflection document was presented to the board at their next quarterly meeting. It prompted a governance discussion the board had not previously had in a structured way. Within the year, they updated their constitution and introduced a trustee orientation process.
